Protective Styles That Protect Your Edges

By SheBeenHair

Tension is the main edge killer

Braids, twists, and sewn-in styles can all be protective—or damaging—depending on tension at the hairline. We map partings away from fragile areas when we see thinning.

How long to wear a style

Most protective sets we install are meant for four to six weeks. Beyond that, buildup and matting at the root create breakage on takedown even if the style still looks neat.

Night care still applies

Satin lining on bonnets, avoiding headbands that rub the front, and moisturizing the hairline without petroleum-heavy products keep edges calm between visits.

Professional takedown matters

We offer takedown appointments with a deep cleanse and trim plan. DIY removal after extensions is a common source of traction loss—we would rather help you take it down safely.
